The coveted award follows a visit to the Anstey eatery by AA inspectors last week.
The inspectors particularly praised the quality of head chef Andrea Scarpati's seasonal, authentic Italian cooking.
Chef Scarpati introduces a new specials menu to the restaurant every week, and his pan-fried wood pigeon breast with pickled cherry mayonnaise was singled out for particular praise.
The Tortino al cioccolato from the a la carte menu - a dark chocolate and dark cherry fondant - was also highlighted for its quality.
The AA's Rosette Award scheme celebrates the best restaurants in the UK, with only about 10 per cent of establishments nationwide cooking at a standard worthy of one Rosette or above.
AA inspectors are independent adjudicators of quality, which is established through anonymous visits to the venues up for review.
Situated in the heart of Anstey, the family-run restaurant was opened by Chef patron Andrea Scarpati with his wife Cristina and her brother Luigi in May 2011.
Talking about the AA Rosette, Andrea says: “When you work hard and give 100% to a job that you love, getting a reward like this makes you push even harder to achieve the next step.
"I want to say a big thank you to all of our team at Sapori. Our joint achievements come from our shared belief in what we do and I'm pleased my passion for food has rubbed off on them.”
The restaurant has won a number of awards, including being named Best Italian Restaurant in the country at the Italian Awards 2015 and the National Food Awards in 2016, and Best Italian Restaurant in the Midlands at the Midlands Food Drink and Hospitality Awards 2018.
In March 2017, Chef Andrea was selected to become a member of CHIC (Charming Italian Chef). This is an association of chefs who boast more than 50 Michelin stars between them. They are dedicated to authentic and innovative Italian cuisine, and Andrea is the only UK-based member.
